Marriage is one of the oldest traditional and religious practices in Kano in particular and Northern Nigeria in general. Each society has different ways of practicing and conducting marriage rites (wedding ceremonies). Like many other societies, Kano had experienced a gradual transition from traditional to modern wedding practices. This paper aims at discussing the traditional practices that were later replaced with modern ones. It employed both primary and secondary sources, which were thoroughly corroborated. This paper has found that the traditional wedding ceremony in Kano was greatly influenced by several number of historical forces and western values, which were borrowed and integrated with traditional practices particularly in areas like introduction of event centres, makeup, clothing, etc. which replaced the known alibidi, zaman ajo, kunshi, etc.
