Art Curriculum Implementation in Secondary Schools: Issues, Problems and Prospects

Abstract

This paper looks at issues, problems and prospects for Art Curriculum implementation in secondary schools in Nigeria. It looks at the conceptual framework of curriculum implementation and art. It also examines some of the goals of Art in secondary schools as stated in the National Policy on Education. Issues and problems related to art curriculum implementation were considered, i.e. the art teacher, curriculum design, students' interest, environment (space, studio) etc. Prospects and recommendations were made, one of which is school administrators and teachers being the implementers of the curriculum should put all hands on deck to ensure that the curriculum is properly implemented to suit the aims and objectives it is meant to achieve. Conclusion was drawn in relation to the theme.
