Health Education As Veritable Tool for Effective Human Productivity in Teacher Training Institutions In Nigeria

Abstract

Health education is a process of providing health information in a simple and understandable form for people to learn and adopt. It helps people to value health as a worthwhile asset and enable them to make informed decisions about their lives. Health education is very effective in improving knowledge, changing attitude and enhancing practice in relation to positive health behaviour which can result to improve health status and productivity. Good health is a resource for everyday living, which enables individuals to enjoy life, achieve academically and make them happy citizens that can contribute to the socio-economic and cultural development of every nation. Therefore, it is recommended that posters and billboard depicting health promotion strategies such as balance diet, importance of exercise, avoidance of drugs and alcohol consumption should be placed in strategic locations in our tertiary institutions for the benefit of both teachers, students and other institutions community members as this will go a long way in improving their health status and thereby results to high productivity.
