Abstract

This paper focuses on social studies education: panacea for peace and security towards sustainable development in Nigeria. Attempts were made to highlights the role of social studies education in fostering peace and security and thereby championing sustainable development. It examines briefly the concepts of social studies education, objectives of social studies education, challenges of social studies education in Nigeria, peace, security, sustainable development and role of social studies education in promoting peace and security towards sustainable development in Nigeria. The paper went further to proffer some recommendations that, if government and education stakeholders take, will in no small measure promote peace and security and as well ensure sustainable development in Nigeria.
